A Spectacular Performance from Five Songs
It was reported that the five top original songs featured in this year’s Academy Awards had an outstanding 373% sales boost in the 24 hours following the ceremony. The previous day saw the five nominated songs collectively downloaded 3,000 times, but increasing to as much as 17,000 downloads the following day.
In the Lead
Miguel and Natalia Lafourcade and Gael Garcia Bernal performed Coco’s “Remember Me” – this year’s most popular song. It was not only the winner at the event, it also doubled its’ downloads to 2,000 the following day. “Remember Me” was written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.
Top Selling Song
Keala Settle took the stage with The Greatest Showman’s “This is Me” and it was transformed into the biggest money-spinner of the event. Hitting a grand total of 157,000 on top of being the only one of the five songs to hit the charts on the Billboard Hot 100, “This is Me” is the biggest hit commercially.
Performed by Mary J. Blige, Mudbound’s “Mighty River” showed an impressive increase in downloads. The song gained close to 3,000% with nearly 2,000 downloads on the day following the awards.
Second-biggest selling song out of the five top performers is Call Me by Your Name’s “Mystery of Love”. Sufjan Stevens performed the track which was downloaded 4,000 times the next day. Andra Day and Common performed Marshall’s “Stand Up for Something” which was deemed the runner-up in percentage gain on the day. Of the non-original hits at the event, “Room at the Top” a Tom Petty song performed by Eddie Vedder, achieved major sales. It was performed as part of the “In Memorium” segment of the awards.
